After dropping its first match of the day, the Norse headed back to the courts to face Winona State, a D2 scholarship program. Luther performed well at several spots, but ended up on the wrong end of a 7-2 decision against the Warriors.
Hailey Johnson recorded her second doubles win of the day, this time pairing with Jenna Myers for an (8-4) win against Laura Lindstrand and Laura Roesslein at No. 3 Annie Whiteley and Katy Lindstrom had a tight battle at No. 2, with each team only earning one service break until the final game of the match when the Warrior tandem of Jessica Urban and Brianna Havelka broke serve to secure a (9-7) victory. Winona State also won at No. 1 doubles to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Whiteley and Lindstrom had the closest singles matches with Whiteley pulling out her third victory of the day while Lindstrom’s valiant comeback ended just short of the finish line. Whiteley split sets and then trailed 9-7 in the third set super tie-breaker before fighting off a pair of match points and winning (6-2, 4-6, (11-9)). Lindstrom rallied from 6-0 down to win the second set 7-5 before falling (6-0, 5-7, (10-3)). Winona State won the other four spots in straight sets to nail down the win.
The Norse are now 10-3 overall this season and will hit the courts on Friday, March 15 to face St. Olaf. The match will be held at the Owatonna Indoor Tennis Center in Owatonna, Minn.
