Luther advanced to the semifinals of the Iowa Conference Tournament for a second consecutive year, defeating University of Dubuque 3-1 here in the Regents Center.
The Norse rolled to victories in sets one, three and four en route to the victory. Luther won set one 25-14, dropped a hard fought 27-25 decision in set two, and proceeded to win the next two sets by scores of 25-17, 25-8. In the fourth and final set, the Norse tallied nine consecutive points and extended their lead from 14-7 to 22-7 during this stretch.
Natalee Johnson and Hannah Wilson led the Norse attack with 12 and 10 kills respectively. Kelsey Sorensen was credited with nine and Leah Broderick had eight. The Norse also played solid defense at the net as Johnson, Broderick and Wilson were all credited with multiple block assists. Lindsey Ryan dished out 39 assists and Brandi Knupp led the back row with 17 digs.
The win gives Luther an overall record of 16-18. Dubuque ends its season with a mark of 12-21.
Luther will travel to regular season champions and top seed of the tournament Wartburg College on Thursday, Nov. 7. Start time for this semifinal match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
In the other first round match tonight, Loras defeated Simpson 3-0. Loras will now travel to Coe. This match will also take place on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
