Elly Arend scored both of Luther's goals as the Norse defeated the Cardinals of St. Mary's University 2-1 this afternoon in Winona, Minn.

St. Mary's took an early 1-0 lead in the 17th minute on an unassisted goal by Katie Holmes. Arend leveled the score with her second goal of the season at 18:38 assisted by Ellie Bunz (1). Arend scored the game winner at 67:53, after intercepting a St. Mary's goal kick and shooting the ball in the lower left corner of the net. 

The Norse outshot the Cardinals 21-11 and also had a 8-1 advantage in corner kicks. 

Box Score

The win gives Luther an overall record of 2-5-0, while St. Mary's fell to 0-7-0.

The Norse will begin Iowa Conference play on Saturday, Sept. 28, when they will host Buena Vista University at 3:00 p.m.
