Luther defeated UW-La Crosse 1-0 this afternoon here in the valley. The victory was the first for the Norse who are now 1-4-0. La Crosse falls to 1-5-0.
Tonight was the first time these two teams played each other since 1998. With the win, Luther leads the series 4-3-1.
Elly Arend (1) scored the game winner in the 74th minute, driving the ball in the lower left corner of the net, after the ball had bounced off a number of players from both teams in front of the net.
Luther dominated the second half and finished the match out shooting La Crosse 21-9. The Eagles keeper Ashley Tracy was credited with seven saves, most coming in the second stanza.
Cydney Haaland, who was making her third start of the season in front of the nets, turned away five shots on goal en route to the shutout.
