Women's Tennis - Coe College
|Date:||September 15, 2013|
Coming off a big win over Grinnell earlier in the week, the Luther women’s tennis team returned home to face Coe. The Norse were once again up to the task in doubles, grabbing a 2-1 edge on the Kohawks, but were unable to close the deal in singles, falling 5-4 in a close match.
Maggie Helms and Caroline Treis tallied the first point of the day for the Norse at No. 1 doubles where the duo lead Coe’s Tai Lucero and Tamara Washington by a 5-2 margin before Washington had to retire due to injury. The Kohawks leveled the match at 1-1 when Laura Birky and Sarah Lasecki rallied to knock off Luther’s Lola White-Baer and Hailey Johnson at No. 2 by an (8-6) mark. The Norse went back in front when Jenna Myers and Olivia Heitz held off Jordan Ferree and Elizabeth Hoffmann for an (8-6) win at No. 3 doubles.
Luther extended its lead to 3-1 when Myers breezed past Hoffmann (6-0, 6-1) at No. 5 singles. Coe then countered with a win of its own at No. 1 singles where Lucero beat White-Baer (6-2, 6-1) to make it 3-2 in favor of the Norse. Birky rallied for the second time on the day, edging Treis (1-6, 6-2, (10-6)) at No. 4 to level the match. Coe then went in front for the first time all day when Amy Sebastian held off a late charge from Helms to hold on for a (6-3, 6-4) win at No. 2. Diannah Watson clinched the match with a (7-6 (5), 6-4) win against Heitz at No. 6. Adriana DePaolis scored the final point for the Norse with a (7-6 (3), 6-3) win over Ferree at No. 3 singles.
The Norse are now 4-3 overall this season.
