Luther claimed its second Iowa Conference championship in the past three years defeating No. 9 Wartburg 1-0 in double overtime tonight in Waverly.
With just five second remaining in the second overtime, Martin Stalberger drove in the game winner. The goal was his second of the season and it could not have come at a better time.
The victory secured a three-way tie for the regular season Iowa Conference title with Loras and Wartburg. The league title is the second for the Norse under the direction of Head Coach Chris Garcia-Prats and the eighth in school history.
The win gives Luther an Iowa Conference record of 6-1, 13-5-0. Wartburg fell to 6-1 in league play, 14-3-2 overall.
The Norse will be the No. 3 seed for the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament that will begin this Saturday, Nov. 2. Luther will host No. 6 Central at 7:00 p.m.
