Day One Recap: Luther is in fourth place after the first day of competition at the Grinnell Invitational. The Norse posted 354 points. Grinnell is in first with 586.
Top-three performances were posted by the 200 freestyle relay and Jason Orvis who finished third in both the 100 backstroke (54.18) and 100 freestyle (49.49). Orvis also swam the first leg of the relay and was followed by Justin Yuan, Jon Hagen and Ryley Kramka. This foursome was clocked at 1:30.71.
Advancing to today's A-Finals and where they placed included, Jacob Sund (4th) and Yuan (7th) in the 200 IM; David Carius (9th) and Seth Vander Horst (10th) in the 500 freestyle; Sund (5th) and Yuan (9th) in the 200 breaststroke; Kramka (7th) in the 100 freestyle; and Sam Raiche (8th) in the 200 fly.
Day Two Recap: Luther finished fourth with 710 points. Host Grinnell won the team championship with 1244. Augustana College was second with 1022.5 and Gustavus Adolphus was fourth with 965.5.
Norse that advanced to today's A-Finals and their finishes included, Jacob Sund (5th) and David Carius (7th) in the 400 IM; Sam Weinberg (8th) in the 200 freestyle; Jon Hagen (8th) and Sam Raiche (9th) in the 100 fly; Sund (9th) in the 100 breaststroke; Jason Orvis (3rd) and Hagen (9th) in the 200 backstroke; Ryley Kramka (4th) and Orvis (7th) in the 50 freestyle.
Both the 200 medley relay (Orvis, Sund, Hagen and Kramka) and 400 freestyle relay (Orvis, Weinberg, Seth Vander Horst, Kramka) placed fourth today.
Luther returns to action on Friday, Jan. 24 when it will travel to Coe College. This Iowa Conference dual will begin at 6:30 p.m.
