Two nationally ranked teams squared off in Pella, Iowa for the final regular season games of the year. Unfortunately, No. 24 Luther was defeated by No. 14 Central 1-0 (8) and 5-3.
In game one, Central's Annie Sarcone drove in Whitney Sowers for the game winner with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Sowers, who was the second batter for the Dutch in this frame, reached base on a walk.
Miranda McCay tallied two of Luther's three hits and was the only batter to advance to second base on Dutch hurler Mallory Schulenberg.
In the nightcap, Central did all of its damage in the second and third innings defeating Luther 5-3. The Dutch scored once in the second and four times in the third. The Norse scored three runs on four hits in the fourth. Katie Wieland drove in two of the three runs and Elisa Smith drove in the other.
The two losses drops Luther's Iowa Conference record to 9-5, 25-9 overall. Central finished in a tie for first place with Coe with a record of 12-2 in league play, 28-7 overall.
