The Luther women’s tennis team finished out its home opening weekend by hosting College of Saint Benedict in the afternoon match. For the fifth straight match, the Norse grabbed the advantage after doubles, but ultimately did not get to finish as the end of the match was stopped due to heavy rain in the area. The Norse were up a set at four of the six singles positions when play was halted.
Jenna Myers and Olivia Heitz moved to 5-0 this fall with an (8-1) victory over MacKenzie Rixe and Erin Stocker at No. 3 doubles. Lola White-Baer and Hailey Johnson took care of business with an (8-2) decision against Daley Rupar and Victoria Beach at No. 2, giving the Norse a 2-0 lead. The Blazers tallied their first point with an (8-4) win from Jamie Hoffman and Laura Finn over Luther’s Maggie Helms and Caroline Treis.
When singles play was stopped, Luther was up a set at No. 1, No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6. College of Saint Benedict was in front at No. 4 while No. 2 was still in its opening set. White-Baer came out firing at No. 1 and was leading Rupar (6-3, 1-3) while Helms was cruising at No. 3 with a commanding (6-3, 4-1) advantage over Beach. Treis led Stocker (6-3, 0-2) while Lauren Welch was well on her way to a win, sitting at (6-0, 3-1) when matches finished. The Blazers’ Finn was ahead of Myers by a (6-1, 4-1) margin at No. 4. College of Saint Benedict also enjoyed a slight edge at No. 2 where Hoffman led Luther’s Adriana DePaolis by a (6-5) margin.
With the match unfinished, the Norse remain 2-2 overall this season.
