The women's basketball team snapped its five-game skid with an 89-86 overtime victory over Simpson College this afternoon. Simpson entered today's game alone in second place in the IIAC and on a six-game win streak.
Trailing 70-60 with a little under four minutes remaining, the Norse outscored the Storm 12-2, capped off by a Taylor Johnson bucket with five seconds remaining that sent the game into overtime. The Norse outscored the Storm 17-14 in the extra frame to secure the victory.
Johnson recorded a double-double scoring 32 points and collecting 14 rebounds both game highs. Nellie Nelson tallied 16 points and Meagan Koepnick chipped in 14.
Simpson was led by point guard Brittany Hedrick with 20 and Morgan Terpstra with 19.
The victory gives Luther an Iowa Conference record of 2-6, 11-8 overall. Simpson fell to 6-2 in league play, 11-8 overall.
The Norse will be on the road next Wednesday, Feb. 5 when they will face league leading Loras College (8-0, 13-6). Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m.
