Luther's season came to an end in the championship tilt of the Iowa Conference Tournament tonight in Pella. The Norse were defeated by the Dutch 74-70.
Trailing by as many as 11 points (55-44) with a little over 12 minutes remaining in the game, Luther battled back and pulled to within one twice, at 1:09 and 10 seconds left, but could not quite get over the hump to take the lead.
Luther jumped out to a quick 14 point lead (27-13) midway through the first half, but a 25-9 run by the Dutch capped off with a Matt Greenfield three pointer at the buzzer, gave the Dutch a 38-36 advantage at intermission.
Luther was led by John Androus who finished his brilliant career with a double-double. Androus tallied 20 points, collected a career high 15 rebounds, and dished out three assists.
Central's Colly Taylor and Greenfield both recorded double-doubles. Taylor scored 10 points and collected 11 misfires, while Greenfield chipped in 17 points a grabbed 12 rebounds. Kevin Kaerwer and Nile Eckermann both scored a team high 19 points.
Luther finishes its season with a record of 17-11 and became the first No. 6 seed of the tournament to advance to the championship game.
Central, the regular season league champions, earned the automatic berth to the NCAA III National Tournament. The Dutch are now 20-7.
