The University of Dubuque remained atop the Iowa Conference standings defeating Luther 66-60 tonight in the Stoltz Sports Center.
It was a difficult shooting night for the Norse who connected on 28.6 percent of their attempts, that included a 1-of-20 effort from behind the three-point line. Despite the shooting woes, the Norse battled back from an early 13-point deficit to take a 26-25 lead with one minute remaining in the first half. The lead was short lived as the Spartans answered with a three-point basket taking the lead for good.
In the second frame, the Norse tied the game (38-38) at the 13 minute mark and pulled to within two (54-52) with four minutes left in the game. Both times the Spartans answered with runs that held off the Norse en route to the victory.
Meagan Koepnick paced the Norse with 17 points. Taylor Johnson and Nellie Nelson also tallied double digits with 10 each.
Dubuque was led by the trio of Jenna Kotas (14), Emily Brinker (14) and Adrianna Stephens (11).
The loss drops Luther's Iowa Conference mark to 1-2, 10-4 overall. Dubuque improved to 3-0, 10-4.
Luther returns to action this Saturday at Simpson College (2-1, 7-7). Tip-off will take place at 2:00 p.m.
