The Luther women’s tennis team won its second match of the day by an 8-1 score, dispatching Simpson in a neutral site match in Grinnell, Iowa. The Norse held a 2-1 lead after doubles, the 11th straight match where Luther has won at least two doubles points, and then swept the six singles matches to record the victory.
Jenna Myers and Olivia Heitz capped a perfect dual meet record in doubles for the fall season, moving to 11-0 with an (8-2) win over Lauren Schemmel and Michelle Hartmann at No. 1. Megan Wachholz and Kylie Kruse, coming off a consolation title at the Midwest Invite, also came through with a victory, defeating Jordan Parra and Krista Rogers by an (8-3) margin at No. 3. The Strom captured the No. 2 match by an (8-4) score when Kelli Ehrhardt and Kelli Greiner defeated Luther’s Adriana DePaolis and Molly Brown.
Leading 2-1, the Norse took command by winning the first set on all six singles courts. DePaolis closed out her match at No. 1 with a (6-1, 6-0) victory against Schemmel. Johnson also notched a singles victory at No. 6, winning (6-0, 6-1) over Sidney Griffith. Caroline Treis and Lauren Welch each won by identical (6-2, 6-1) scores. Treis beat Hartmann at No. 2 while Welch earned her win against Rogers at No. 5. Myers and Heitz were each pushed to a deciding third set super tie-breaker before winning at No. 3 and No. 4. Myers held off Ehrhardt (6-0, 4-6, (10-7)) at No. 3 while Heitz defeated Greiner (6-1, 4-6, (10-7)) at No. 4.
The Norse complete the IIAC dual match schedule with a 6-1 mark while improving to 8-3 overall this season. Luther will host the IIAC Individual Tournament on Friday, Oct. 4-5 in Decorah.
