Day One Recap: After the first full of day of competition Luther is in second place with 391 points. Gustavus Adolphus College is in first with 571.5.
Individual top three finishes were posted by Clare Slagel, Erin Connolly and Elizabeth Reed. Slagel won the 100 backstroke (:57.61), Connolly was second in the 200 IM (2:14.10) and Reed was third in the 500 freestyle (5:19.66).
The Norse also placed second in both the 400 medley relay and 800 free relay. The foursome of Slagel, Connolly, Lexi Scharmer and Emily Anderson posted a time of 4:01.42 in the 400 medley relay. Slagel, Megan Jelinski, Jackie Hughes and Reed were clocked at 8:04.17 in the 800 free relay.
Also advancing to the A-Finals and where they placed included, Hughes in the 200 IM (5th); Nicole Larson (7th) and Scharmer (9th) in the 100 backstroke; Connolly (6th) and Hughes (10th) in the 200 breaststroke; Scharmer (8th) in the 200 fly; and Slagel (4th) in the 100 freestyle.
Day Two Recap: Luther wrapped up the two-day Grinnell Invitational with 747.5 points good for third place. Gustavus Adolphus won the team title with 1184 and University of Nebraska-Omaha was second with 766.
Clare Slagel had another excellent outing capturing first place finishes in the 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke. Slagel also swam the first leg of the second place 200 medley relay. Erin Connolly, Lexi Scharmer and Emily Anderson completed the foursome.
A-Finals qualifiers and how they finished included, Jackie Hughes (3rd) and Sarah Pospisil (10th) in the 400 IM; Elizabeth Redd (9th) in the 200 freestyle; Scharmer (2nd) in the 100 fly; and Connolly (3rd) in the 100 breaststroke.
Luther returns to dual meet competition on Friday, Jan. 24 when it travels to Coe College. Start time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
