The Luther College men’s tennis team had a lengthy battle with Elmhurst for the second straight year, but this time it was the Bluejays who came away with the 5-4 win.  Like last year, it was a 2-1 edge in doubles that made the difference as the two squads split the six singles matches for the second straight time.

Sean Brown and Matt Bellio paired together for the first time this year and were impressive in an (8-3) victory against Vincent McPherson and Quinn Jennings at No. 3 doubles.  Nick Mozena and James Ayer saw a rally from a 6-1 deficit fall just short in an (8-6) loss to Luke Tanaka and Chris Harrison at No. 2 to level the match at 1-1.  Ramesh Karki and Quinn Foley went back and forth with Alex Harbert and Will Jung at the top doubles spot, but dropped an (8-6) decision as Elmhurst grabbed a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.

Mozena rolled to a (6-2, 6-0) win over Jung at No. 2 to even the score at 2-2.  Torstein Jystad also won convincingly, beating Jennings (6-1, 6-2) at No. 5, but the Bluejays won competitive matches at No. 3 and No. 6 to hold onto a 4-3 lead with two matches left on the court.  Elmhurst finally clinched the meet when Harbert held off Karki (6-4, 2-6, 6-4) at No. 1.  Ayer rounded out the scoring with the fourth point of the day for the Norse, rallying to defeat Tanaka (2-6, 6-4, 7-5).
