Nationally ranked No. 9 Luther moved into a four-way tie for first place in the Becca Girvan became Luther's all-time leader is strikeouts, while throwing a two-hit shutout. Girvan struck out 11 of the 23 batters she faced giving her a career total of 490. Girvan moved past All-American Kim Lambert '10 who ended her career with 489.The win gives Girvan a record of 10-2.
Carli Radil and Miranda McCay drove in the Norse runs. Radil hit a solo shot over the left field fence in the third, while McCay drove in what proved to be the game winner with a single in the second. Both went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Kelsey Weindruch ended the game with a three-run home run to left. Weindruch, who was 2-for-4, also drove in three runs in the first with a triple to right-center field. Elisa Smith and McCay also tallied multiple hits.
Erica Manske (6-0) remained undefeated in the circle. Manske threw a three-hit shutout, striking out six batters and walking one.
The two victories runs Luther's string of consecutive victories to five. The Norse are now 18-4 overall. Buena Vista fell to 2-4 in league play, 11-13 overall.
The Norse will return to action tomorrow afternoon when they will host the Spartans of University of Dubuque at 2:00 p.m.
