Over 90 alumni returned to help Luther kicked off the indoor track schedule with its annual Alumni Meet this afternoon.
Cole won the mile with a time of 5:14.73 that ranks eighth all-time. Cole broke Emma Spoon's record of 5:17.18 established last year. Rickels tied the meet record set in 1998, with the fifth best jump in school history of 5-3 3/4. Gerber smashed the 3000 meet record by 10 seconds, posting a time of 10:26.71. She led a group of five alumni that finished 1-5. Kat Shanner held the old mark of 10:36 also set in 1998.
There were a number of top-10 performances by the Norse. Kelsey Strand (44.83) and Marea Holkesvik (44.84) finished first and second in the 300 meter dash, posting the ninth and tenth fastest times in school history. Maggie Pierson (3:06.12) won the 1000 meter run by a full five seconds, posting the ninth fastest time all-time.
In the field events, Leah Broderick (5-1 3/4) ranks tenth in the high jump, Gabrielle Murphy (16-9 3/4) ranksseventh all-time in the long jump, while Amanda Dunn (42-0 3/4) and Emma Cassabaum (39-5 1/4) recorded the fifth and seventh best weight throws all-time.
Luther will travel to Carleton College Saturday, Feb. 9 for the Carleton Meet of Hearts Invitational. Events are scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
