The Luther women’s tennis team played its second straight NCAA DII opponent when the Norse battled Merrimack on Tuesday, March 26 in Orlando, Florida, but this time Luther reversed the script and picked up a 7-2 victory. The Norse rode a doubles sweep and then displayed depth in the singles lineup to earn the win.
Katy Lindstrom and Annie Whiteley came out firing at No. 2 doubles and raced to an (8-1) victory over Kara Hole and Mollie Fitzgerald. Lola White-Baer and Hailey Johnson continued their strong play at No. 3, pulling away after a slow start to win (8-4) against Rachel Muller and Alyx Barnes. Elise Allen and Maggie Helms rallied back to win (8-6) at No. 1, defeating Katie Veasey and Shakee Messina to put Luther in front, 3-0.
Lindstrom was a (6-3, 6-1) winner at No. 4 over Fitzgerald and DePaolis breezed past Veasey (6-1, 6-2) at No. 6 to clinch the match for the Norse. Helms added a (7-5, 6-0) win over Muller at No. 3 for Luther’s sixth point. Whiteley closed out the scoring for the Norse by tallying a (6-7 (8), 6-1, (10-2)) victory at No. 5.
