Sarah Sindelar and Tricia Serres headlined Luther's efforts at the University of Northern Iowa Dome Open. Sindelar established a new school record in the 60 meter dash (8.21), and Serres did the same in the Mile (4:55.05). Sindelar broke the old mark of 8.29 set by Jamie Newman in 2006. Serres, who won the mile by almost 15 seconds, crushed the old mark of (5:05.41) that was established in 2007 by Janet Dobyns.
First place finishes were also recorded by Addy Rickels in the 600 (1:47.88), Kayla Uphoff in the 1,000 (3:12.85) and the 4 x 400 (4:11.55) of Marea Holkesvik, Serres, Kelsey Strand and Maggie Pierson.
Rickels also placed second in the high jump (5-5) that ranks fourth on Luther's all-time indoor list. Megan Hatfield (9.90) and Jenna McGeee (9.92) advanced to the finals in the 60 hurdles. Hatfield's time ranks third all-time while McGee's time ranks fourth. Dia LeFebvre, who also qualified for the finals of the 60 meter dash, posted the fourth fastest (8.66) in school history during the prelims.
Top-10 performances were also posted by Desi Mantey in the pole vault (9-2 1/4) that ranks fifth; Emma Cassabaum (42-1 1/4) and Jackie Hoyme (37-11 1/4) posted the sixth and tenth best throws all-time in the 20lb weight throw; Rickles (10.24), Leah Broderick (10.37), and Anna Burke (10.52) in the 60 hurdles. Their times rank sixth, eighth and tenth respectively.
Luther's next competition will be the two-day Iowa Conference Indoor Championships that will be hosted Feb. 22-23 at University of Dubuque.
