Luther used a balanced offensive attack to defeat Viterbo University 72-58 at the Regents Center Saturday evening.
In a game Luther led throughout, the Norse held a 32-22 halftime lead. Viterbo opened the second half with a 12-2 run to tie the game 34-34 with 14 minutes remaining. The Norse responded with a 14-4 run of their own to claim a 10-point lead with six minutes left. Luther held the V-Hawks off thanks to solid free throw shooting down the stretch, going 9-for-10 at the charity stripe in the final three minutes. Overall, Luther shot 22-of-29 at the free throw line.
The Norse shot 55 percent from the field in the second half and 44 percent for the game. Viterbo shot 41 percent overall, but was only able to make one three-pointer in the contest (1-for-9). Luther connected on 6-of-13 from behind the three-point line.
All five Luther starters scored in double figures. Tyler Wedemeier, Aaron Huber, and John Androus all had 13 points. Michael Crocker chipped in 11 and Zach Matos-Pritchard had 10. Wedemeier also recorded his fourth double-double of the season collecting a team high 10 rebounds. He was also credited with a season high four blocked shots.
The V-Hawks were led by Cole Lewis with 16 points. Matt Turba tyallied 14 points and Izac Sheforgen chipped in 11.
Luther improved to 4-2 on the season, while Viterbo dropped to 5-6. The Norse return to action Friday, Dec. 7 at the Regents Center when they host Northwestern College (MN). Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
