Luther improved to 3-0 in dual meet competition following a 173-127 victory over Grinnell. The Norse won nine events including taking the top three places in the 50 freestyle and the top four places in the 200 backstroke.
For the second week in a row, Clare Slagel rewrote the Luther record book. Slagel won both the 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke establishing new Luther and Grinnell pool records. Slagel posted a time of :57.61 in the 100 backstroke, breaking her old mark of :57.96 established one week ago today. Her time of 2:06.70 broke the old mark of 2:07.52 set by Erin Mykleby Feb. 18, 2012. Both times are also NCAA III B-Cut qualifying marks.
Elizabeth Reed also tallied two individual first place finishes. Reed won both the 1,000 freestyle (11:10.36) and the 500 freestyle (5:27.54). Reed's time in the 1,000 freestyle ranks second all-time.
First place finishes were also posted by Sam Kuipers in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.90), Erin Connolly in the 50 freestyle (25.42), and Zoe Johnson in three-meter diving (200.70). Kuipers mark in the 100 breaststroke ranks fourth all-time. She also placed second in the 200 breastroke (2:31.59) that ranks fifth all-time. Lexi Scharmer posted the fourth best time in school history in the 100 butterfly (1:01.83) and finished second.
Slagel, Kuipers, Scharmer and Connolly started the meet with a first place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:50.38). Connolly, Katherine Blocker, Slagel and Laura Boran completed the meet with a first place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:41.66).
The Norse will return to action Nov. 17 when they will participate in the UW-La Crosse Relays.
