Results:7-2
Location:Home

The Luther men’s tennis team faced off against its chief rival in the IIAC and came away with a 7-2 victory against Coe.  The Norse used a doubles sweep to gain the early momentum and then won four of the six singles matches to clinch the No. 1 seed in the IIAC tournament with a perfect 8-0 mark in IIAC regular season play.

Aaron Gendron and Tyler Zinnecker grabbed an early lead and never looked back, winning (8-2) at No. 3 doubles against Curtis Newman and Michael Janssen to put Luther ahead.  Scott Sundstrom and Ramesh Karki quickly followed with an (8-4) victory over Noah Sprinkel and Victor Khristenko at No. 1 to make it a 2-0 score.  Nick Mozena and James Ayer fought off a late charge from Jeff Damisch and Michael Woolf at No. 2 to complete the sweep with a (9-7) victory, giving Luther a 3-0 advantage.

The Norse continued to play well, winning the first set at five of the six singles positions.  Ayer polished off a good day on the courts with a (6-2, 6-4) decision against Janssen at No. 6 to make the match score 4-0.  Coe tallied its first point of the match when Damisch edged Gendron (7-5, 7-6) at No. 4, but Mozena held off Stokstad for a (6-2, 7-5) win at No. 3 to clinch the match for the Norse.  Karki also handled a late charge from Khristenko at No. 2, winning (6-1, 7-5).  Luther picked up its final point of the day when Sundstrom outlasted Sprinkel (6-3, 6-7, 6-3) at No. 1.  Bellio dropped a (6-7, 7-5, (10-5)) decision to Newman in the final match of the day at No. 5 to account for the final score.
