Luther fell to 0-3 in the Iowa Conference after being defeated by Wartburg College 24-10 in Waverly this afternoon.
The Knights tied the game before halftime on a 27-yard field goal by Frank Loconti early in the second frame, and an eight-yard pass from Logan Schrader to Curt Hruska with 1:53 remaining in the half.
Following a scoreless third quarter, the Knights scored twice in the fourth frame. Brandon Domeyer completed a 73-yard, 15-play drive that ate up nearly six minutes, with a five-yard touchdown run. Schrader broke loose for a 34-yard touchdown run with a little over seven minutes left in the game to complete the day's scoring.
Statistically, Luther tallied 316 yards of total offense, compared to Wartburg's 322. The Norse recorded 15 first downs to the Knights 16, but turnovers and big plays proved to be the difference.
Bohr had a single game career high 119 receiving yards on four receptions. Matt Jaronik led all receivers with five catches. Moore threw for 233 yards, connecting on 13-of-24 attempts, but was sacked five times.
"No doubt I was very proud of how our guys competed," stated Head Coach Mike Durnin. "There was never any quit at any time. We continue to improve and I am confident everyone will strive to better themselves this next week.
"Our defense did a nice job. With the exception of a couple of plays, our secondary showed great improvement in defending the pass, especially the deep ball.
Offensively we did a lot of nice things in the first half. Unfortunately we were just a step off or an inch off from explosive plays in the second and third quarters. We will continue to work on becoming more consistent. "
The loss drops Luther's overall record to 0-5. Wartburg improved to 2-1 in the IIAC, 4-2 overall.
Next Saturday the Norse will host Central College at 1:00 p.m.
