Semifinals - Luther 5, Wartburg 0

The Luther men’s tennis team opened the Iowa Conference Tournament with a semi-final match-up against Wartburg.  The Norse entered play as the top seed while the Knights, seeded fifth, upset the fourth seeded Cornell Rams in the opening round.

Scott Sundstrom and Ramesh Karki came out firing on all cylinders and easily dispatched Chris Buckingham and Josh Trueblood (8-0) at No. 1 doubles.  Nick Mozena and James Ayer fell behind 1-3 at No. 2, but won the final seven games to secure an (8-3) victory over Brian Rasmussen and Dayton Stevens.  Tyler Zinnecker and Quinn Foley trailed for much of the match at No. 3, but prevailed (9-8 (4)) against Eric Hilpert and Blayne Willadsen at No. 3, giving Luther a 3-0 advantage heading into singles action.

Luther won the first set at all six spots, but Sundstrom and Torstein Jystad came through with the first two wins to advance the Norse to the title match.  Sundstrom was a (6-0, 6-2) winner over Buckingham at No. 1 while Jystad defeated Trueblood (6-3, 6-2) at No. 6.
