The Luther women’s tennis team opened its spring season in Greencastle, Indiana and dropped a pair of matches to ranked opponents. The Norse fell 5-4 to Oberlin, ranked No. 19 in the Central Region, in the first match of the day.
Against Oberlin, Cami Czech and Katie Howe tallied the lone point for the Norse with an (8-3) victory at No. 1 doubles against Finley Gates and Grace Porter. Oberlin won decisively at No. 2 and No. 3 to take a 2-1 advantage into singles.
Luther earned points at No. 2, No. 3, and No. 5, but was unable to overcome the early deficit from doubles, losing 5-4 in the first match of the spring. Elise Allen rallied from a one set deficit at No. 2 to defeat Gates (4-6, 6-4, (10-2)). Cassandra Chalhoub was a (7-6 (3), 6-4) winner against Porter at No. 3 and Howe edged Rebecca Brown (6-3, 4-6, (10-8)) at No. 5.
