Carnegie Mellon

After a close loss to one nationally ranked foe, the Norse were quickly back on the courts to face another nationally ranked opponent in Carnegie Mellon.  The Tartans are currently No. 17 in the nation and No. 4 in the Atlantic South Region.  Luther won a pair of matches, but fell 7-2.

Tyler Zinnecker and Aaron Gendron pulled out a close contest at No. 3 doubles, breaking serve in the last game of the match to earn a (9-7) win over Christian Heaney-Secord and Bryce Beisswanger.  Scott Sundstrom and Ramesh Karki also played an outstanding match at No. 1 doubles before falling (8-5) to Duke Miller and Will Duncan.  Carnegie Mellon won (8-1) at No. 2 doubles to take a 2-1 lead into singles play.

Sundstrom completed a long day with a terrific win over Miller at No. 1 singles by a score of (6-3, 6-4).  Miller is currently ranked No. 4 in the Atlantic South Region.  Karki had another tight match in singles before losing (7-6 (5), 7-5) to Heaney-Secord at No. 2.  Nick Mozena also played well at No. 3, coming up just short in a (6-4, 6-4) loss to Harsha Rao.  Torstein Jystad played a close match at No. 6, dropping a (7-6 (5), 6-3)) decision to Thomas Cooper.  The Tartans won comfortably at No. 4 and No. 5 singles.

Luther is now 6-3 overall this season.  The Norse now return to Iowa Conference action with a pair of matches in Pella, Iowa on Saturday, March 3.  Luther opens against Simpson before facing the host Dutch of Central in the nightcap.
