Luther advanced to the semifinals of the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament thanks to a 63-60 road victory over Central College. The loss not only snapped a three-game skid for the Norse but also snapped Central's six-game win streak. This was the first time these two teams faced each other in the tournament.
Tim Merritt led the Norse offensive attack with a game high 18 points. Merritt connected on 4 of 5 three points attempts and was 6 of 8 from the field for the evening. Michael Crocker and Tyler Wedemeier also reached double digits. Crocker tallied a career high 14 points, while Wedemeier chipped in 11. John Androus who collected a team high nine rebounds was next with six.
Central was led by Nick Marinkovich with 14 points. Jacob Winkler tallied 13 and Demarco Turner added 10.
The victory gives Luther an overall record of 17-8. Central ends its season with a mark of 18-8.
Luther advances to the semifinals for the fourth time in the 14-year history of the tournament and the second year in a row. The Norse will travel to regular season champions and the #1 seed of the tournament Coe College on Thursday, Feb. 23. This game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. and can be heard via audio stream and on the regular air waves on 1240 AM KWLC.
