The Luther men’s tennis team won its first two matches of the day, but was unable to complete the trifecta, falling 7-2 to Carleton in a battle of regionally ranked opponents.  The Knights entered the contest at No. 10 in the Central Region while the Norse are currently holding down the No. 12 position.

All three doubles matches were very competitive with Carleton picking up wins at No. 1 and No. 3 to take a slim 2-1 edge.  Aaron Gendron and Tyler Zinnecker lost an (8-5) decision to Austin Jiang and Andrew Hwang at No. 3 to give Carleton a 1-0 lead.  Ramesh Karki and Quinn Foley played a terrific match at No. 1, but ultimately lost (9-8 (4)) to Peter Dunn and Paul Cooper.  Trailing 2-0, Nick Mozena and James Ayer got Luther on the board with an (8-6) win against Dan Vollman and Jon Aranda.

Ayer completed a perfect day on the courts, edging Vollman in a first set tie-breaker and then rolling to a (7-6 (2), 6-1) victory at No. 5.  Torstein Jystad also won his first set in a tie-breaker before losing in a deciding third set super tie-breaker (6-7 (1), 6-4, (10-6)).  Carleton won the top four matches in straight sets to grab the road win.
