The Luther women’s tennis team ran its record to 6-0 on the year with an 8-1 victory over Loras on Wednesday, Sept. 12 in Dubuque, Iowa. The Norse used another doubles sweep to propel the squad to its sixth straight victory to open the season. With the win, Luther also improves to 2-0 in the IIAC.
Taylor Bremer and Molly Brown cruised to an (8-0) win at No. 3 doubles, defeating Rebecca Weglarz and Amanda Sharkey. Hailey Johnson and Megan Wachholz followed with an (8-3) victory over Elizabeth Dickhut and Caroline Rainey at No. 1 doubles, giving Luther a 2-0 advantage. Adriana DePaolis and Olivia Heitz went back and forth with Loras’ Est Mungai and Rachel Weglarz at No. 2 before prevailing (8-6).
Johnson made it 4-0 with a (6-2, 6-2) win at No. 4 over Sarah Alt before Brown clinched the team victory with a (6-2, 6-4) decision against Rainey at No. 5. Bremer fought off a tough challenge in the opening set from Rebecca Weglarz before pulling away for a (7-6 (4), 6-1) win at No. 6. Wachholz was a (6-4, 6-3) winner at No. 2 against Mungai while Heitz knocked off Rachel Weglarz (6-2, 6-3) at No. 3. DePaolis dropped a (6-1, 7-6 (3)) decision to Dickhut at No. 1.
The Norse are back in action on Sunday, Sept. 16 when the team will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to face Coe College. Both squads are unbeaten in early season IIAC action.
