Luther finished in fourth place at the 2012 Iowa Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The Norse posted a two-day total of 80 points. Central won its fourth consecutive league title with 241 points, followed by Wartburg with 208 and Loras with 118.
Individually, Dalen Dirth was crowned the league champion in the decathlon for the second consecutive year. Dirth won the event with 6,471 points, producing a personal best point total by 124.
All-conference honors were also earned by Andrew Papke-Larson, Logan Langley, Scott Mittman and Marty Mitchell. To earn all-conference honors an athlete must place in the top-three of his individual event or as a member of a relay team.
Papke-Larson (3:57.48) and Langley (3:59.33) placed second and third respectively in the 1500 meters. This is the second time that Papke-Larson has earned all-conference honors in this event during his career.
Mittman also earned all-conference honors for a second time in the 5000 meters. Mittman placed second clocked at 15:25.22.
Mitchell was the league's runner-up in the 10,000 meters posting a time of 31:40.51.
Five other athletes posted top-10 performances during the two days of competition. Joel Clark and Jordan Humpal, who both qualified for the finals of the 110 hurdles, posted times of 15.07 and 15.26 respectively. Clark's time ranks sixth all-time, while Humpal's prelim mark of 15.20 ranks ninth.
Josh Humpal, Elliot Scheck and Dan Etter all posted personal bests in the hammer throw. Humpal recorded a throw of 152-11 and ranks second, Scheck tallied a mark of 132-2 that ranks sixth, and Etter recorded a throw of 126-6 that ranks seventh all-time.
