The Luther men’s tennis team finished a perfect 5-0 trip to Orlando, Fla., with a 7-2 win over Hope Colleg. The Norse improved to 13-3 overall with its seventh straight victory. Ramesh Karki played all 10 matches and completed the week unbeaten in singles with a 3-2 mark at No. 1 doubles.
Karki and Scott Sundstrom quickly won (8-2) over Parker Bussies and Matt Culver at No. 1 while the other two matches were tightly contested. Tyler Zinnecker and Aaron Gendron rallied from a 1-4 deficit and won (8-6) over Cody Herbruck and Dan Owens at No. 3, completing a perfect 4-0 week for the duo. Quinn Foley and James Ayer dropped an (8-6) decision to Davis Vanderveen and John Panzer at No. 2.
Luther won five of the six singles matches in straight sets to secure the victory. Sundstrom made short work of Bussies at No. 1, winning (6-1, 6-0). Karki defeated Casher (6-1, 6-2) at No. 2, and Gendron was a (6-1, 6-1) winner against Herbruck at No. 3. Matt Bellio fought off Culver in a close first set and won (6-4, 6-1) at No. 4. Torstein Jystad was a (6-2, 6-2) winner against Owens at No. 6. Panzer defeated Ayer (7-6 (6), 3-6, (13-11)) at No. 5.
The Norse return to action with a home match against St. Olaf on Saturday, March 31. Start time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
