Luther lost its second overtime game in week dropping a 78-71 decision to Coe College at Eby Fieldhouse. The loss, combined with a Central 64-63 victory over Wartburg, makes Luther the #5 seed for the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament that begins next week. Both Central and Luther finished the regular season with marks of 10-6.
The free throw line proved to be the difference as the Norse, who led the majority of the second half, converted 11-of-22 attempts from the charity stripe in the second frame.
Coe's David Mataloni knocked down a three-point bucket that tied the game at 58-58 with four seconds left on the clock. In the extra period the Kohawks outscored the Norse 20-13 and claimed the outright league title.
John Androus led the Norse attack with a career high 22 points. Dane Larson also reached double digits with 18. Michael Crocker and Tyler Wedemeier chipped in 9 and 8 respectively.
The Kohawks were led by Seth Light with 22 points. Andrew Wirth was credited with 13, while Mataloni and Garrett Cross both tallied 11.
Luther will travel to Central on Tuesday, Feb. 21 for a first round tournament game that will begin at 7:00 p.m. This game can be heard via audio stream as well on 1240 KWLC.
