Luther posted a hard fought 67-61 road victory over Central this evening. The win was not only Luther's third in a row, it also secured sole possession of first place, as Buena Vista defeated University of Dubuque 73-62 tonight in Dubuque.
The Norse led by as many as 14 points in the second half, but had to fight off a scrappy Dutch team that pulled to within one point (62-61) with 1:37 left in the game. Free throws by Tyler Wedemeier and John Androus in the final seconds sealed the deal for the Norse.
Androus and Dane Larson led the offensive attack with 15 points apiece. Tim Merritt also tallied double digits with 11, while Wedemeier chipped in nine off the bench.
Central was led by Jacob Winkler who poured in a game high 20 points. Demarco Turner and Chris Lehmann also recorded double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively.
Luther is now 7-1 in league play, 13-3 overall. Central fell to 5-3, 12-4. These two teams will collide again in Decorah Feb. 11, at 4:00 p.m.
This Saturday, Luther will host Cornell at 4:00 p.m. This game will be video streamed.
