The Luther women’s tennis team continued its difficult schedule this spring with another match-up against a highly ranked foe. The Carleton Knights, ranked No. 5 in the Central Region and No. 25 in the nation, came to Decorah and defeated the Norse 9-0.
Cami Czech and Katie Howe played the closest match in doubles, falling (8-4) at No. 1 doubles to Kathryn Schmidt and Erin Gudul. Elise Allen and Katy Lindstrom dropped an (8-3) decision at No. 2 doubles to Bridget Doyle and Anne Lombardi. Both Knight duos are ranked in the top 15 of the latest Central Region Poll.
Carleton was also strong in singles, but the Norse received some positive showings along the way. Allen fought back from a 2-5 deficit in the second set, eventually losing to Doyle at No. 2 singles (6-1, 7-5). Howe performed well at No. 4, but lost (6-4, 6-2) to Gudul. Lindstrom had the longest singles match of the day, trading breaks with Molly Hemes throughout the match before losing (7-5, 6-4).
The Norse, ranked No. 15 in the Central Region, will conclude regular season with an away match against Grinnell on Sunday, April 22. The Pioneers are ranked No. 13 in the Central Region.
