Liberal Arts Championships

Day One Recap:

After the first day of competition Luther sits atop the leader board with 237 points. Lindenwood University is second with 217 followed by Loras College with 103.5. Twelve teams are competing at this year's championships.

The 400 medley relay of Erin Mykleby, Stephanie Drewes, Amelia Ladd and Erin Connolly capped off a successful first day with a first place finish. The foursome was clocked at 3:58.0 that was also a new school record, meet record and pool record.

Ladd, Katie Storey, Chloe Benjamin and Connolly started the first finals session placing first in the 200 freestyle relay clocked at 1:38.30

Individually, Elizabeth Reed was crowned the champion of the 500 freestyle. Reed posted the third fastest time in school history of 5:11.40. Mykleby placed third in this same final clocked at 5:15.52.

Drewes posted the third fastest time in school history in the 200 IM, Drewes finished second with a time of 2:13.12

Brandie Schierland finished third in three-meter diving with a point total of 330.75.

Day Two Recap:

The Norse extended their lead to 96 points at the conclusion of today's action. Luther sits atop the leaderboard with 539 points. Lindewood is second with 443, followed by Morningside with 251 and Loras with 222.5.

The 200 medley relay got things off to a fast start. The foursome of Mykleby, Drewes, Ladd and Connolly posted a winning time of 1:48.23, setting a school record, pool record and Liberal Arts Championships record.

The squad picked up 77 points in the 200 freestyle finals as five of the eight finalists were Norse. Mykleby captured her first individual title of the championships touching the wall at 1:55.56. Reed was second (1:58), Chrisann Zuerner was fourth (1:59.73), Kelli Golinghorst was fifth (2:00.76) and Margaret Yapp was eighth (2:01.91).

The Norse also picked up 65 points in the 100 breaststroke finals as four Norse finished in the top five. Drewes was crowned the champion with a time of 1:07.21. She was followed by Benjamin in third (1:07.54), Connolly in fourth (1:09.28) and Storey in fifth (1:09.32).

Mary Kathryn Maher and Ladd finished third in the 400 IM and 100 butterfly respectively. Maher was clocked at 4:51.20, while Ladd touched the wall in 59.17 that ranks second on Luther's all-time list. 

The 800 freestyle relay of Reed, Maher, Golinghorst and Mykleby finished the days competition with a second place finish. The foursome was clocked at 7:53.11.

Day Three Recap:

Luther captured its sixth consecutive Liberal Arts Championship tonight. The Norse posted a team total of 802, finishing ahead of runner-up Lindewood with 683.

The Norse wrapped up the three-day meet with a second place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. Mykleby, Storey, Ladd and Connolly finished at 3:34.79. Lindenwood won the event clocked at 3:33.77.

In today's action, Mykleby set a school record and Liberal Arts record with a gold medal performance in the 200 backstroke. Mykleby won the event with a time of  2:07.52.

Drewes also stood atop the awards podium finishing first in the 200 breaststroke clocked at 2:26.14. Storey finishing third in this same event with a time of 2:28.98.

Reed captured silver in the 1,650 freestyle (18:03.93), while Maher finished fourth (18:13.87).

In one-meter diving, Schierland placed third (352.30) and Samantha Edwards was fourth (348.95).

Norse that reached the A-Finals but did not place in the top-three included Connolly (4th), Benjamin (5th) and Ladd (6th) all in the 100 freestyle; Paige Lenoch (5th) and Jordan Skaar (6th) in the 200 butterfly; Kyrie Dailey (4th) in the 200 backstroke.
