Luther improved to 11-1 in the Iowa Conference after sweeping University of Dubuque 5-0, 4-0 this afternoon in Dubuque.
Abby Christian drove in three runs to lead the Norse offensive attack. Christian drove in a run in the first with a sacrifice fly, and two in the fifth with a single. Lauran Snyder and Kelsey Kittleson also drove in a run each. Kelsey Weindruch was 3-for-4 and scored twice.
Becca Girvan (20-2) posted a three-hit shut. Girvan retired the first 12 batter she faced en route to her fifth shutout of the year. She spread three hits, walked one and struck out 10.
Kelsey Rose (8-1) pitched five solid innings allowing two hits, walked one and struck out four en route to the victory. Girvan pitched the final two frames striking out three of the nine batters she face.
Snyder drove in what proved to be the game winner in the first inning. After Shari Huber reached base on an error by the Spartan third baseman, Snyder hit her team leading 13th double of the year, driving in Huber.
Weindruch and Christian were also credited with an RBI. Weindruch drove in a run in the second on an infield out and Christian drove in a run in the fifth with a single.
The two wins gives No. 4 Luther an overall record of 30-4. The Norse also secured a spot in the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament. Dubuque fell to 3-7 in league play 14-18 overall.
The Norse will be off until Sunday, April 22 when they will travel to UW-Stevens Point for the final non-conference double header of the year. First pitch will take place at 2:00 p.m.
