Luther dropped a 64-55 decision to University of Dubuque tonight in the Stoltz Sports Center in Dubuque. The loss marked the first time this season the Norse have lost two in a row. Luther and Dubuque are now tied atop the Iowa Conference standings with records of 9-3, with four games remaining on the regular season schedule.
The Norse trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half and battled back to tie the game 52-52 with 5:10 remaining, but were outscored 12-3 down the stretch.
The free throw line proved to be the difference as the Spartans connected on 15-of-19 attempts, while Luther made eight trips to the charity stripe and made four. Both teams made five treys and Luther had a slight edge on the boards 31-29.
John Androus and Tyler Wedemeier led the team with 12 and 10 points respectively. Dane Larson and Michael Crocker chipped in eight each.
The Spartans were led by Mitch Michaelis who tallied a game high 18. Lee Piccinelli also reached double figures with 12.
Luther hosts Simpson College Saturday, Feb. 4 at 4:00 p.m. This game will be video streamed.
