Luther lost a heart breaker this afternoon 2-1 to Simpson here in Decorah.
With the match tied 1-1 late in the second half, a shot by Simpson's Heather Adolph, hit the cross bar and looked to have fallen straight down. The loose ball was grabbed by Norse goalkeeper Cydney Haaland, but the officials ruled that the ball had crossed the goal line. The goal proved to be the difference in the contest.
Simpson scored first when Laura Alt scored found the back of the net unassisted in the 38th minute. Maggie Herrity tied the match with her team leading fifth goal of the year, assisted by Anna Solheim (1) at 62:19.
The loss drops Luther's Iowa Conference record to 1-4, 5-8-1 overall. Simpson improved to 2-3 in league play, 8-6-0 overall.
The Norse will wrap up their non-conference schedule on Wednesday, Oct. 17 when they will travel to UW-Platteville for a match that will begin at 5:00 p.m.
Maple Grove, Minn.
