A goal by Elly Arend in the seventh minute proved to be the game winner as Luther defeated University of St. Thomas 1-0 this afternoon in Decorah. Arend's goal was her second of the year assisted by Cecilia Douma her first.

The Norse also got a solid effort in goal from Cydney Haaland who was credited with 11 saves en route to her second shut out of the season.

St. Thomas out shot the Norse 21-12 and also held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks, but Luther's solid defensive effort did not allow the Tommies to find the back of the Norse net.

Box score

The victory was the first ever for the Norse over the Tommies and leveled their overall record to 3-3. St. Thomas fell to 2-3.

Up next for the Norse will be a trip to Carleton College this Sunday, Sept. 16. The Knights are ranked 4th in the North Region. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. This match will be video streamed by the Carleton sports information department.
