Luther lost its conference opener to Simpson 8-5 this evening in Indianola. The Norse led 4-3 after scoring three runs on four hits in the top of the fifth. Simpson responded with five runs in the next four innings en route to the victory, remaining undefeated in league play.
Chris Reynolds produced three of Luther's seven hits, going 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in two runs. Kevin Bradley, Ian Fitzgerald and Eric Pittman were all credited with an RBI as well.
Alec Knop (1-1) was credited with the loss. Knop took over for Augie Lindmark in the sixth and allowed four runs on five hits, walked two and struck out seven. Two of the runs were unearned.
Lindmark threw the first five innings allowing four runs on 11 hits, walked four and struck out four.
The loss gives Luther an overall record of 7-8, 0-1 in the IIAC. Simpson improved to 10-8, 4-0 in league play.
These two teams will wrap up the three-game series tomorrow with a double header that will begin at 1:00 p.m.
