Day One Recap:
Luther is in fourth place after the first day of action at the Liberal Arts Championships. The Norse tallied 120 points and trail Lindenwood University with 337 and Illinois Tech with 165. Loras College is fourth with 105. Ten teams are competing at this year's championships.
Nathan Maloney was surrounded by seven Lindenwood University athletes in tonight's 200 IM final. Maloney placed third clocked at 1:54.06. His time was a new school record and also B-Cut qualifying mark for the NCAA III National Championships.
Zach Kuntz was also the lone Norse to reach the finals of the 50 freestyle. Kuntz placed fourth with a time of 21.25 that ranks fourth on Luther's all-time list.
Kuntz also swam the anchor leg of the second place 400 medley relay. Maloney, Tim Cutler, Eric Hild and Kuntz posted a time of 3:28.06.
Day Two Recap:
Luther remained in third place after the second of day of competition but closed the gap on second place Illinois Tech. Lindenwood sits atop the leader board with 694 points. Illinois Tech is next with 337, followed by Luther with 334.
Maloney headlined today's action, posting a school record in the 400 IM. Maloney finished third in tonight's final clocked at 4:11.93. During the preliminary rounds he was clocked at 4:10.50.
He also swam the first leg of the 200 medley relay that placed third. Maloney, Bradyn Watson, Jon Hagen and Kuntz posted a time of 1:35.70.
A number of Norse advanced to A-Finals today. Hild placed sixth in the 100 butterfly (52.25); Sam Weinberg (1:45.82) and Kuntz (1:49.04) finished sixth and seventh respectively in the 200 freestyle; Cutler (59.21) and Watson (1:00.36) finished fifth and seventh in the 100 breaststroke. Cutler's time ranks second all-time, while Watson's ranks fifth.
The 800 freestyle relay wrapped things up with a third place finish. Weinberg, Hild, Cutler and Maloney touched the wall at 7:04.67.
Day Three Recap:
Luther finished the three-day Liberal Arts Championships tied for second place with Illinois Tech posting a point total of 521. Lindewood University claimed its third consecutive team title with 1,018 points.
The Norse capped off the championships with a third place finish in the 400 freestyle relay. The team of Kuntz, Weinberg, Maloney and Cutler was clocked at 3:10.18.
Individually, Roy Barnett (5th), Sean Parvi (6th), Chandler Roberson (8th), Matthew Key (9th) and Stefen Snyder (12th) all picked up points towards the team total.
Six Norse reached tonight's A-Finals. This listed included Maloney (5th) in the 200 backstroke; Kuntz (8th) in the 100 freestyle; Watson (6th) in the 200 breaststroke; Tanner O'Brien (7th) in the 200 breaststroke; Hild (5th) in the 200 butterfly; and Hagen (8th) in the 200 butterfly.
