Luther's five-game win streak was snapped this afternoon in Waverly as Wartburg defeated the Norse 62-53.
Trailing 35-30 at halftime, Luther put together a 20-10 run and held a five point lead (50-45), at the midway point of the second frame. The Knights responded with an 11-3 run of their own and re-took the lead for good (56-53) with just over two minutes left in the game. Six free throws by the Knights down the stretch secured the final tally.
The Norse shot 33 percent and were outrebounded by a 44-31 margin.
Dane Larson led the Norse with 17 points. Larson was 6-of-11 from the field including a 3-for-3 effort from behind the three-point line. John Androus also reached double digits with 13.
The trio of Jordan Sathoff (18), Thomas Perkins (12) and Mitchell Murphy (10) led the Knights attack.
The loss drops Luther's Iowa Conference record to 9-2, 15-4 overall. Wartburg is now 3-8 in league play, 9-11 overall.
Luther travels to University of Dubuque Wednesday night for what could be a clash for the outright lead in the conference standings. Dubuque is playing at Coe later this evening and a victory by the Spartans would leave both teams tied with marks of 9-2. Wednesday's game will be audio streamed starting at 8:00 p.m.
