Luther secured the #3 seed for the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament after defeating Wartburg College 1-0 tonight here in Decorah.
Austin Walther scored on a one-timer off a corner kick from JW Slauson in the 33rd minute. Walther's shot was drilled into the upper right hand corner of the Wartburg net and proved to be the game winner.
Tommy Breen went the distance in front of the nets and recorded his second consecutive shut out. Breen was credited with five saves for the evening.
Luther out shot Wartburg 19-13 and forced Knight goalkeeper Cade Shatzer to face 10 shots on goal. Luther also had an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The win gives Luther an Iowa Conference record of 4-3, 10-5-2. Wartburg fell to 3-3-1 in league play, 7-8-2 overall.
As the #3 seed of the tournament, Luther will host the #6 seed Central College in the first round on Saturday, Oct. 27. The start time for this match is yet to be determined.
