The Luther College men’s tennis team suffered its first defeat of the season with a 7-2 loss against UW-Whitewater. The Warhawks swept the three doubles matches and won in straight sets at the bottom four singles positions for the victory in a match-up of two ranked opponents.
The Norse, ranked No. 11 in the Central Region, picked up victories from Scott Sundstrom and Ramesh Karki at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Sundstrom, ranked No. 18 in the Central Region, rallied to beat Byron Balkin, the No. 14 player in the Central Region, (6-7 (5), 6-1, (10-4)) at No. 1 while Karki held off Andrew Bayliss by a score of (7-6 (4), 1-6, (10-5)) at No. 2.
Tyler Zinnecker and Aaron Gendron had the doubles match, falling (8-6) in a tight battle at No. 3 to Erik Scanlan and Kevin Friend. Gendron also played a solid singles match before losing 6-3, 6-3 to Mitch Osborne at No. 4 singles.
