Luther took a big step towards qualifying for the six-team Iowa Conference Tournament after defeating Wartburg 5-3, 4-3 this afternoon.
In game one, Luther scored four run on four hits in the third inning, snapping a 1-1 tie. Matt Reynolds (3-4) pitched five innings allowing three runs on eight hits. Augie Lindmark picked up his second save of the year allowing two hits in two innings of scoreless work.
Chris Erikson, Matt Larson, Ryan Bahnemann and Thomas Weber all drove in a run.
Kevin Bradley was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the fifth.
Alec Knop (4-2) went the distance on the mound en route to the victory. After giving up three runs on four hits in the second inning, Knop settled down and allowed just two hits to the next 20 batters he faced.
The two wins gives Luther an overall record of 18-15, 9-8 in the Iowa Conference. Wartburg fell to 17-16, 9-8 in the IIAC.
Luther will host University of Dubuque this Friday and Saturday for the final home stand of the year. Friday's nine inning game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. Saturday's double header will begin at 1:00 p.m. All three games will be video streamed.
