Luther won its seventh consecutive home game defeating Cornell 5-4 this afternoon. The win also secure a sweep of the three-game series.
The Norse scored the game winner in the seventh inning when the Rams committed a two-out error with the bases loaded. Luther tied the game scoring two runs in the fifth.
Chris Erikson, Matt Larson, Kevin Bradley and Robby Jewell all had an RBI. Chris Reynolds was 2-for-3 that included a triple in the third inning and a double in the seventh. Larson and Eric Pittmann also tallied two hits each.
Danny Smith (2-4) went the distance on the mound. Smith gave up four runs on eight hits, walked two and struck out six. After the fifth inning, only two Cornell batters reach base safely.
The win puts the Norse over .500 for the first time this season. The Norse are now 16-15 overall, 7-8 in the Iowa Conference. Cornell fell to 5-10 in league play 8-23 overall.
Luther will host Wartburg College on Tuesday, April 24 for a twin bill that will begin at 1:00 p.m. Both games will be video streamed.
