Luther was defeated in its season opener at UW-Platteville by a score of 64-57 in overtime. After leading by as many as 10 points in the first half, Luther entered the halftime locker room with a 28-21 advantage. With the game tied at 55-55 at the end of regulation, the Pioneers outscored the Norse 9-2 in the extra five minutes of action en route to the victory.
Luther shot 45.1 percent from the field that included a 3-for-13 performance from behind the three-point line. The Norse held the Pioneers to 43.8 percent and won the battle of the boards 32-28. The difference in the ball game came at the free throw line where the Pioneers had an 18-8 advantage.
Tyler Wedemeier led a trio of double digit scorers with 12 points. John Androus and Zach Matos-Pritchard chipped in 10 each. Dane Larson, who dished out a game high six assists, was credited with nine.
The Pioneers were led by Brett Stangel and Rob Stallion with 23 and 11 points respectively.
The Norse will return to action on Monday, Jan. 21 when they will host the Oles of St. Olaf College at 7:00 p.m. This game will be video streamed.
