After opening with a victory over Upper Iowa University, the Luther women’s tennis team was back on the courts later in the day to face UW-River Falls. Elise Allen was once again the first one off the court in doubles and the last one off in singles, completing a perfect 4-0 day and leading the Norse to a 9-0 win over the Falcons.
Allen and Hailey Johnson were (8-3) winners at No. 2 doubles over Jodi Vanderiet and Courtney Swanson, while Katy Lindstrom and Megan Wachholz also won by an (8-3) tally against Hannah Klimek and Makayla Newberry at No. 3. It was the Norse debut for both Johnson and Wachholz.
After a quick 2-0 advantage, the Norse had to work for its third point as Cassandra Chalhoub and Lola White-Baer rallied from deficits of 3-0 and 7-5 to post a (9-7) win at No. 1 against Jenny Paxton and Amanda Dragnied.
Wachholz was also successful in her singles debut, winning (6-2, 6-2) over Klimek at No. 5 singles. Helms clinched the match for the second straight time with a (6-0, 6-3) decision at No. 4, defeating Newberry. Jenna Myers was the third player to make her varsity debut with the Norse in this match and came away with a (6-3, 6-4) win against a talented opponent at No. 6. Myers rallied from a 4-3 deficit to win the final three games in the second set.
The top three singles matches finally took the court after the conclusion of a long match at No. 1 doubles and Luther picked up a trio of victories to finish off the sweep. White-Baer cruised to her third win of the day, winning (6-2, 6-0) over Vanderiet. Chalhoub was also a straight set winner at No. 1, beating Paxton (6-2, 6-1). Allen was once again the final one on the singles court, rallying to win (0-6, 6-3, (10-7)) over Dragnied.
