Luther swept University of Dubuque after posting wins of 5-4 (8) and 3-1 this afternoon. Luther has now won 10 in a row and completed the home schedule with a mark of 11-1. The two wins also moved the Norse into a tie for second place at 12-8 with Coe College.
In game one trailing 4-0 entering the bottom of the fifth, the Norse tied the game scoring four runs on two hits. Chris Reynolds was credited with an RBI walk, followed by a two-run single to right field by Chris Erikson. Matt Larson tied the game with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored Reynolds.
In the eighth, Eric Pittman drove in the game winner on a sacrifice fly to center that scored Kevin Bradley. Bradley, who reached safely with a single to left, advanced to third thanks to a pinch hit double by Austen Graham.
Alec Knop (5-2) was credited with the win. Knop threw three hit less innings, walked two and struck out one.
Luther did all of its damage in the first inning en route to the rain shortened night cap victory. Ryan Bahnemann and Bradley were credited with RBIs as the Norse scored three times on three hits.
Dubuque scored its lone run in the third off Matt Reynolds who was credited with the win. Reynolds pitched six innings and allowed just two hits, walked one and struck out five.
The Norse travel to Wartburg on Wednesday, May 2 for a nine inning game that will begin at 6:00 p.m.
