A 20-yard field goal by Wartburg's Marcus Williams with 57 seconds remaining in the game, secured a 24-21 victory for the Knights in Carlson Stadium.

After trailing 21-7 after the first quarter, Luther pulled to within a touchdown with 3:17 left in the third frame. Alex Hain, who rushed for 85 yards, capped off the nine-play, 76-yard drive with a two-yard plunge.

Rich Vickers forced Knight's running back Reese Thompson to fumble, that was recovered by Keaton Palo at the 50-yard line, that set up Luther's tying touchdown. Eight plays later, Chris Reynolds connected with Steven Thompson on a five-yard pass, that leveled the score at 21-21 with 3:35 left in the game.

Chris Reynolds completed his career with 134 yards rushing on 19 carries. He also was 18-of-32 for 144 yards and two touchdowns. Reynolds connected with Dalen Dirth and Thompson six times each.

Drew Helle caught Reynolds first touchdown pass of the afternoon, a nine-yard toss in the right corner of the end zone, at the 14:11 mark of the first quarter.

All-American Kyle McGivney, who set the NCAA III career tackles record last week, was credited with 11 this afternoon. He also picked off a Dan Stiefel pass in the end zone and returned it 57-yards midway through the second quarter. McGivney completed his career with 546 tackles, that ranks second on the all-divisions career list. Boomer Grigsby, Illinois State holds the record with 550.

Donterrious Porter was also credited with 11 tackles. Porter also returned four kick-offs for 113 yards, with a long of 56.

"I am extremely proud of how our team continued to compete throughout the afternoon," stated Head Coach Mike Durnin.  "Being down 21 - 7 after the first quarter was difficult, but the players never lost belief in themselves, their teammates or the plan.  Our defense did a great job of creating takeaways throughout this contest and throughout the year.

This senior class took a big chance four years ago with a new coach and I am thankful for their efforts. They have definitely laid a great foundation for championship years ahead."

Box score
